Chavez Chills with Sean Penn

Rabble-rousing actor/Madonna ex Sean Penn is taking his show on the road -- with Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez. The politically-charged star has been hanging with Venezuela's socialist leader during a tour of the Venezuelan countryside.

The Chavez-Penn love affair was sparked, said Chavez, because Penn is "anti-Bush." Danny Glover and Harry Belafonte have also had face time with the Venezuelan leader.

Said Penn of his visit: "I'm also here as a journalist and so I owe it to that medium to wait until I've digested, fact-checked and finished my journey here" before saying more. The "Mystic River" actor has also done reporting stints in Iran and Iraq.

61. 'K, Larry. Let's say I become President. Right or wrongly, I order you to jump off a cliff. YOU jump off the cliff, I guess, but not before you tell me to move to another country because I won't. LEMMING. Had you lived in Germany, you'd have been one of Hitler's biggest backers, and you'd be hiding out like a scared senior citizen in Switzerland or some other neutral country right now had you survived. Just because someone says something is right doesn't always make it so. The facts have to back it up first.

62. Hugo Chavez=Moron

I'm sure that both Trey Parker and Matt Stone are hysterically laughing over this news(which sounds like a scene from a "Team America" sequel).

64. #51-LARRY - GOOD FOR YOU! WELL SAID! I have to say I am a fan of Penn as an actor, but as a journalist I'm not too sure. Why are all these actors getting involved with politics? They should really stick to what they know & that is acting & leave the politics to our govt. Not to say our govt is doing the right thing all the time, but that is life in
America. If we disagree with the govt GET OUT THERE & VOTE.

Good going Larry!

65. There are MANY in academia, the media, and the beltway (just to name a few) that have socialist leanings. I believe this will tarnish Sean Penn's image in the eyes of many Americans. I don't believe Sean Penn did his homework. He needed to study WHO Hugo Chavez is and WHAT he has done to rise to power. He is a sordid character. Why would you want to meet with the Devil?

66. Sean Penn is a MORON. He will do and say anything to get his name and picture in the news. Remember following Katrina how he went to New Orleans, got a boat, and got in the way of the police and firefighters and others trying to find and save people? Did he graduate from High School? I'm sick of these Hollywood, no brain liberals doing and saying outlandish, stupid things just for their own publicity. He's ugly as hell, too.

ALL OF THOSE MEN ARE....AND THEY SHOULD NOT BE WELCOMED BY AMERICANS ANY LONGER...LIVE IN Venezuela FOR A TIME MR. PENN AND SEE HOW MUCH BETTER IT IS THEN AMERICA YOU SNAKE

68. BRAVO Mr. Sean Penn, you are a true American, you love your country. In the US children are brought up to believe in their Constitution which guarantees freedom of speech and freedom period. Mr. Chavez wants the best for all the people of Venezuela, not only the rich. All the other leaders of Central and South America should follow his example. I greatly admire both Messrs. Penn and Chavez !

69. Out of all the Hollyweird actors that I boycott, Sean Penn is by far the best actor in the bunch. It is truly sad to see this guy become a propaganda tool for tyrants.

72. I'd like to see Penn criticize this dictator just 10% as much as he criticizes his own Prsident. He'd never make it back home!

73. TMZ should really post Maria Conchita Alonso's response to this idiot's visit to the toltalitarian state that Venezuela has become under Chavez.

All Penn's accomplishing is handing Chavez more anti-American propaganda to spew. What a tool Penn is (in more ways than one.)

Cuban-born actress Maria Conchita Alonso, who grew up in Venezuela, said Penn is lending support to a "totalitarian" leader who wants increasing control of society - a charge Chavez denies.

In a phone interview from her home in Beverly Hills, Calif., Alonso said although she respects Penn as an actor, she hopes he "comes to his senses and he realizes that he's being used."

74. #61

"I was offended that the President of another country came here and stood on U.S. soil and bashed our leader."
And the people of Venezuela is offended that the Bush government tried to overthrow him in a military coup. The US government was THE ONLY government in the world that reckognized the dictatorship under Carmona. Chavez is democratically elected, which is broadly reckognized (EU, The Carter Center - headed by Jimmy Carter, his last opponent). His current approval rating is 71%. Bush is at 26-29%. I suggest you start respecting that the people of Venezuela has a say in who is running their country. If you look at the pictures of all the investment being done in infrastructure, like roads, schools, housing, health care, then you'll understand why the poor vote for him. The poor are his base, and unfortunately there is a lot of them in Venezuela.

75. And they'll stay poor with him running the show.
